Parent Training Conference Objectives

  1. Neuroplasticity and Neurogenesis
    • Understand the variety of common mechanisms that contribute to brain dysfunction
    • Understand the connection between deficits in motor, sensory, visual, auditory, language, cognitive, and emotional/social pathways and treatments that promote neurogenesis in those areas
  2. Physiology and Biology
    • Understand how nutritional approaches—including restorative sleep, adequate oxygenation, reduction of toxic exposures, and proper alimentation—lay a foundation for the recovering brain
  3. Understand your child’s abilities using a comprehensive, developmental assessment tool
    • Learn and use a novel, comprehensive tool for assessing neurological age as compared to chronological age
  4. Understand the principles of integrating a neurologically, physiologically, and developmentally based/sound treatment approach
    • Learn the primary components of an intensive brain rehabilitation program in a way that participants can explain it to those who might benefit from such an approach
    • Learn physiological, sensory, educational and motor programs, which have been shown to further develop neurological function
    • Learn concepts of brain rehabilitation when working with patients diagnosed with dyslexia, ADHD, autism, Panda, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, epilepsy, and any condition in which the brain is not functioning at it’s optimal ability
  5. Apply family-centered, evidence-informed, and neuroplasticity approaches to treat brain-injured children

Participant Goals

  • Learn the assessment tool used to comprehensively evaluate an individual’s abilities across 6 areas of development: visual, auditory, motor, sensory, cognitive, and social using existing knowledge of their child’s abilities as a source for establishing a practical plan to help their child mature developmentally
  • Learn how to use the tool to prioritize treatment areas, and how to maximize the effectiveness of a treatment package
  • Learn how to consistently apply the tool to monitor progress and respond to therapy over time
  • Measure how and to what degree the implemented treatments are affecting the individual’s progress
